How Much Does a Website Cost?

April 19, 2016

When someone comes to our Web Design Solutions Unleashed site and has interest in having us build or makeover a site for them, the first question is always about the cost. It is also one of the hardest questions to answer without knowing a lot of details about the project. So when a friend posted a link to a site that quickly gives an estimate for a Web site, I was very curious at what it would quote.

I went to How Much Does a Web Site Cost and started an estimate. It asked me 10 basic questions and then provided me with a quote (see below).

Suffice it to say I was in shock at the quote it provided. Yes, it is insanely high based on the answers I provided! Some of the questions were actually quite humorous to me as those features are automatically part of any site we build and I can’t figure out how they have any effect on the cost.

With the minimal information I provided, I think we would be at 10% or less of the crazy quote this site provided. Of course it is very difficult to be any more specific without a lot more information about what is needed and the work involved.

While this site can give people needing a site heart palpitations, it can also be detrimental to Web designers who think they are undercharging. I just got a laugh out of it and will use it as a tool for showing potential clients that we can provide them a site at a reasonable cost.

That’s a crazy quote! I’d made numerous sites over the years, I think the most I’ve ever billed was around 1,500.00.
