When I write about monitors, I almost always want to write about big ones. About a year ago, I wrote Prices of 43″ 4K Monitors Dropping, LG Has Great Option. In fact, I purchased the LG Electronics 42.5″ Screen LED-lit Monitor featured in that post and love it. Today I’m going to look at a monitor even bigger. Yes, I’ll provide links to buy it on Amazon and I would get a small commission if you bought it. No, I didn’t get a free monitor.

Where my previous writings were about 4K monitors with a more typical 16:9 ratio, today we’re looking at a crazy-wide monitor with a 32:9 ratio. It’s the Philips Brilliance 499P9H 49″ SuperWide Curved Monitor. That’s twice as wide as typical monitors at the same height. If I thought my current monitor was a desk-filler, this one is far bigger. For that, you do get a resolution of 5120×1440 pixels. A monitor that wide allows you to have quite a few programs running side-by-side. For me, that is always the benefit of a larger monitor.

One added benefit are the numerous connectivity options in this massive Philips monitor. Below is a diagram of all the included ports.

We’ll start with the USB 3.1 type-C docking station. This means you can connect various peripherals like a keyboard and mouse to the monitor. Heck, there is even an Ethernet port for added connectivity. Want to connect two computers and use the same keyboard and mouse on both? No problem, there is an integrated KVM switch. Also included is a pop-up webcam. When in use, it pops up out of the top of the monitor and then tucks back in when not in use.

I know this isn’t the monitor for me as the extreme width is not appealing. But for those who like the width and all the included features, this is a darned good monitor. Certainly worth checking out if you are in the market.
