Last week I talked about the Intel Core i9-10900K processor. If you missed it, read Intel Core i9-10900K Desktop Processor – 10 Cores up to 5.3 GHz. This week I’ll pair it up with a powerful motherboard. Yes, there will be an Amazon purchase link that can earn me a tiny commission. No, I didn’t get a free motherboard.
With their 10th generation of Core chips, Intel released a new chipset and thus you can’t plug these chips into older motherboards. You’ll need one supporting the Z490 Intel Chipset. If you are going to get the Intel i9-10900K (or another of the Comet Lake-S chips), you’ll want to check out the Gigabyte Z490 AORUS Pro AX motherboard. Of course it has the new chipset along with a lot of other powerful new features. See the diagram below for a sampling of what’s included.
It is possible none of those features truly jump out to you. WiFi 6 support may not be huge today as it is new, but it is great that it is already supported. You’ll also find the latest USB standards supported. This means that you won’t feel left out in a year or two when you need these new technologies.
Yes there are less expensive options that may meet your needs. This motherboard contains a lot of power without being one of the most expensive options. I like that it helps to futureproof your soon-to-be updated computer. If I were to build a new computer, this would be my choice!
