Inexpensive Way to Add 4 USB 2.0 Ports

Sabrent 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub with Individual LED lit Power Switches
April 21, 2021

The new and improved laptops get faster and smaller. But one way they get smaller is by removing something. DVD drives are very difficult to find in new laptops. Hard drives are almost all SSD drives now. What I find most frustrating is the lack of connections and specifically USB ports. If you have a laptop, you’ll almost have to get something to expand the number of ports. I’ll share one such solution with a link to Amazon. Yes, I get a very small commission if you use my link while you still get the best possible price. I got nothing else for writing this.

The most interesting part of the Sabrent 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub is that each port has an on/off switch with a bright LED. More importantly it converts one port on your laptop into four ports. There are a couple important notes with this particular hub. It does not support charging, but can be used to sync your devices. It also says that external hard drives need to have their own source of power. Neither of those should be surprising since the whole device has to be powered by the one USB port on the computer.

This is not the most high-end solution for adding ports. Admittedly its most attractive feature is the low price. As long as you set your expectations for what it can and can’t do, you should find it a good solution for adding ports.
