Hard drives can be fragile. Using SSD drives takes out the mechanical parts of a hard drive and that alone can make it more rugged. The iStorage drive takes it one further with an IP68 ruggedness rating. What does that mean? It can survive being under 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes. There is a keypad on the front of the drive that requires a PIN to be entered correctly to access the data.
There are different flavors of PIN that can be used. At the top of the stack is the Administrator. The Administrator can also create user accounts. Those accounts can even be set to be read only so the data isn’t overwritten. Lastly, a self-destruct PIN can be created. Should it be entered, all the data and pins will be deleted forever. The encryption ensures compliance with GDPR, HIPAA and CCPA among others.
Is this the fastest portable SSD drive available? No, it isn’t. But using USB 3.2, it can reach up to 370 MB/s read and write speeds. Overall, that’s still relatively fast.
