Kasa Smart Plug Wall Outlet Makes Automation Look Good

Kasa Smart Plug Wall Outlet Makes Automation Look Good
October 20, 2021

If you are a loyal reader, you know I love finding ways to automate my home. Most recently I wrote Four Pack of Kasa Smart Plugs for Voice Control. Using these smart plugs is inexpensive and very easy. But they do stick out from the wall so they aren’t the most elegant solution. Today we’ll explore another option and I’ll share Amazon links as usual. Yes, I get a few pennies if you buy something with the links. No, I didn’t get any free samples.

Kasa Smart Plug KP200, In-Wall Smart Home Wi-Fi Outlet

As mentioned above, even the “mini” smart plugs take up space sticking out of the outlet. This also can make it difficult to use both plugs on an outlet depending on the size of the other plug. That’s where the Kasa Smart Plug KP200, In-Wall Smart Home Wi-Fi Outlet can save the day. To most observers, it is no different than any other wall outlet. The only real giveaway are the two very small buttons that allow you to manually turn the outlets on and off.

While it is more elegant, it isn’t as simple as plugging something in. You’ll need to install the outlet into the wall. For some of you, this is a five minute project. For others, you’ll need an electrician or a handy friend. Once it is installed, you can easily connect both outlets via WiFi so you can control whatever is plugged in via voice or an app. You can even schedule the outlets if you want them to turn on or off at certain times.

This plug works via the Kasa app and can be controlled by Alexa and Google Home. For those who also want support for Apple HomeKit, check out the ConnectSense Smart In-Wall Outlet. Unfortunately it has a much higher cost.
