I’ve done a handful of posts about 40+ inch 4K monitors in the past. Before too long, I’ll get one for myself as my current 30 inch monitor is more than a decade old and is showing signs it may not last a lot longer. Each time I research the category, I come up with a different “best” choice and the prices also continue to drop. I will be providing a link to purchase for which I receive a tiny commission and I can only wish I had gotten a free monitor to write about.
The most recent two posts where I wrote about these big monitors are Acer ET430K Provides Very Good 43″ 4K Monitor at Nice Price and Philips BDM4350UC Provides 43-Inch 4K Monitor. Before I wrote this post, I went back and looked at those two monitors to see if they would still be my choice should I purchase one today. Each of them has been surpassed in my mind by the LG 43UD79-B. What amazes me is how low the prices have gotten!
The LG monitor measures 42.5″ just as with the two others I mentioned. It also has the same 3840 x 2160 4K resolution and supports the display of four separate HD inputs. Most likely, I’d stick with using the entire display with my computer output. It just means I can have more windows open and visible on my desktop at the same time.
LG provides a number of inputs as you can see above. Included are USB-C, HDCP 2.2 and 4 separate HDMI inputs. Unfortunately the HDMI inputs are a bit confusing. Two of them support the full resolution at 60 Hz (HDMI 2.0) and two of them only support 30 Hz (HDMI 1.4). It seems the two older ports are included as a cost saving measure, though they can support HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) at higher refresh rates. So if you’ll be using multiple inputs to combine on the display, they’ll work just fine.
While it isn’t a major selling point to me, the monitor does include two 10 watt speakers with “rich bass”. They are not the best choice if you want some music while working though they will work great for general computer sounds and even for something like a teleconference. They certainly provide a nice complement to dedicated speakers.
With the impressive size and feature list combined with the low price, it seems only a matter of time before I have this monitor on my desk.
